Les prix des billets d'avion pour la bosnie on augmenté avant qu'on ait eu assez de tune pour les payer. On peut toujours y aller en bus mais ça mettra pas mal de temps.


Aussi, on a reçu une proposition de projet au Portugal, pour travailler dans une réserve naturelle qui a l'air pas mal sympa. On devrait sans doute travailler pendant 10 jours mais on pourrait faire un camp un peu plus long que prévu. Pour le transport, on devrait voir si on arrive à louer des camionnettes pour y aller ou si on le fait en avion, on déciderait en fonction du prix...

PROJECT TITLE: International Conservation Voluntary Work in Montesinho Natural Park - Portugal



Background Information




Montesinho Natural Park, created on 1979, is one of the protected areas of Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Institute that work on conservation and management of natural and semi-natural areas, habitats and species and trying to support sustainable development of local people.

This Protected Area was designated a natural park to protect the wildlife of this mountainous region but also the traditional culture of its inhabitants that have meant this landscape has survived into the 21st century.

The Montesinho Natural Park intends to maintain ecological processes, preserve genetic diversity and protect species and the ecosystems upon which they depend. The Park intends to promote the conservation of natural heritage and ecological balance, the conservation of traditional, improved welfare for the resident population as regards environmental quality, economic improvement and improved living conditions, environmental education, scientific research and ecotourism.

It is an wildest region that has meant a range of rare species are still able to survive here including wolves, wild boars, otters, wildcats and around 150 species of birds including eagles. The granite topped mountains are covered in heather with the lower lying areas cloaked in oak forests and grassland through which several rivers flow through the mountain valleys. The mountains are made up of both calcareous rock and granite outcrops at the highest elevations.




We make some studies with flora and fauna (wolfs, mushrooms, desman, …)

There are two offices for the Montesinho Natural Park – Head office in Bragança and an Interpretation Center in Vinhais. They can provide you with leaflets and maps of the park with information of the area and including hiking tracks.

MONTESINHO NATURAL PARK has an area of 75.000 hectares and it is located in the north-eastern corner of Trás-os-Montes. It includes the northernmost sections of the council areas of Bragança and Vinhais. This Natural Park is included in the Special Protection Areas of Montesinho and Nogueira Mountains Site of the Natura 2000 National List of Protected Areas. Its territory is bordered to the west, north and east by Spain, and includes a series of rounded hills and narrow, steep-sided valleys, with altitudes varying between 438 and 1486 meters. The Natural Park includes a number of landscapes of national interest where the harmonious integration of human activity with nature is evident. The region’s woods of Pyrenean oak Quercus pyrenaica represent one of the largest forest areas of this species in Europe, though they are interspersed with other landscape features, such as groves of sweet chestnut Castanea sativa, stands of holm oak Quercus rotundifolia, galleries of riverside trees, lameiros (irrigated upland pastures), cultivated areas and scrub, where the dominant species are heather Erica spp., broom Genista spp. and gum cistus Cistus ladanifer.

The remoteness of the region and the diversity of environmental conditions led to the existence of a great number of animal species, including 125 species of nesting birds, the golden eagle Aquila chrysaetus and the black stork Ciconia nigra, as well as 70% of the land mammal’s species of Portugal. Specially mentioned should be the Iberian wolf Canis lupus packs of this region, the largest wolf population on the Iberian Peninsula.

The cultivation of potatoes, cereals (wheat and rye) and chestnuts are the most common and the Mirandesa breed of cattle can be seen at pasture in the fields in the lush areas.

There are 88 villages in the Park, with some 8000 inhabitants mainly working in forestry, cattle-raising and traditional agriculture. The countless popular traditional celebrations, like the ancient Festas dos Rapazes (Boys’ feast) held mainly in the Lombada area around Christmas time or the ancestral Chegas de Bois (ox fights) are examples of the rich social and cultural heritage of this region.

The nature of the work

Recuperation of infrastructures;

Cleanliness and maintenance of communitarian structures (water mild and a forge);

Development of a picnic area;

Cleanliness of the riverside.

Benefits of the work

- With the recuperation of the infrastructure, where there is a tank made of stone where grapes were crushed, we intend to organize this place for a Rural Museum of wine;

- With the cleanliness and maintenance of the water mild and the forge, we aim to prepare this structure for enrich the possibility of visiting this village;

- With the development of a picnic area and the cleanliness of the riverside, we aspire to create a leisure place for the population and also for the visitors;

Leisure

We have a day (1st) to visit the natural park, to see landscape, agriculture, villages and the typical constructions of the north of Portugal.

We’ll have a day to visit Bragança and the surroundings with the possibility to appreciate the medieval fair.

We’ll have a journey with the population of Guadramil and Rio de Onor, the only example in Portugal of a communitarian village where we still can contact with communitarian activities.

Local Involvement

The people of the village of Guadramil and Rio de Onor will be gladly to participate in the activities.

Involvement of the local people and organize a leisure place for that people and for the visitors.
